Tuesday Type is a fortnightly feature showcasing a chosen font. Today’s type is Cormorant Garamond by Christian Thalmann

.Cormorant Garamond is one of nine visual styles in the Cormorant type family along with Roman, Italic, Infant, Infant Italic, Garamond Italic, Upright Cursive, Small Caps, and Unicase. Each style is available in five weights: Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, and Bold.

Whilst inspired by Claude Garamont’s enduring legacy, Cormorant was not based on any specific existing font. Thalmann drew most glyphs from scratch, occasionally referring to general impressions of Garamond typefaces for guidance.

Thalmann acknowledges the valuable input from typography communities on platforms such as Typophile, TypeDrawers, Typografie forums, along with the developer platform Github. These sources provided essential knowledge and feedback during Cormorant’s development. He also expresses gratitude to the production team for the Mac font editor Glyphs, particularly Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer of Schriftlabor and Georg Seifert.

Cormorant Garamond is available to download from Google Fonts.
