Joel Spolsky, web programmer, writer, and creator of Trello

Joel Spolsky is an American born software engineer and writer. He is the co-founder of Fog Creek Software, creator of the Stack Overflow project and CEO of project management tool, Trello. His blog, Joel on Software, is one of the most popular in the world.

Joel got his first programming job at 15 years old. He went on to work at Microsoft, Primavera, and many other projects at the time. He even briefly worked for Sun before the company closed its doors.

Joel has won many awards for his contributions to open-source software, including the Linux Foundation’s Pioneer Award, Distinguished Software Engineer from the Open Source Initiative, and an honorary PhD from his alma mater.

Stack Overflow was first used in 1999. It is a question-and-answer website where programmers ask and answer questions related to computer programming. It was originally written to improve communication within his company. Over time, it grew to have a global userbase.

Since the launch of Joel on Software in 2001, Joel has served as one of the most active voices in the developer community, driving many important developments in the software industry.
