Beat the Monday blues with a motivating song to get you through the rest of the day, maybe even the rest of the week. Today’s music is “Death Racer (The Crew Motorfest Official Soundtrack)” by Carpenter Brut.
Carpenter Brut is the moniker for Franck Hueso, a French electronic artist from Poitiers. His musical venture began in 2012 when he unveiled his first project, “EP I.” He acknowledges Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor as a key inspiration for his work both inside and outside the studio. Within the retro electronic music scene, Carpenter Brut stands as a distinguished yet mysterious presence, crafting a distinctive sound that merges dark synthwave elements with theatrical progressive rock. He deliberately maintains a low profile to ensure his artistry, rather than his persona, remains the focal point. The artist reveals that Carpenter Brut originated as “a joke,” noting that the name cleverly combines filmmaker John Carpenter’s last name with the champagne brand Charpentier Brut. His shift towards electronic music stemmed from his preference for solo composition over band collaboration.
His discography expanded with EP II (2013) and EP III (2015), which were subsequently consolidated into Trilogy (2015). His catalogue grew further with studio albums Leather Teeth (2018) and Leather Terror (2022), plus a live recording, CarpenterBrutLive (2017). His portfolio includes multiple soundtrack compositions for films and video games, most notably the score for Blood Machines in 2020. This musical accompaniment supports Seth Ickerman’s 50-minute film, which emerged from online enthusiasm for Carpenter Brut’s “Turbo Killer” video, also directed by Ickerman.
Though Carpenter Brut works independently in the studio, his concert performances are celebrated for their powerful atmosphere. He shares the stage with guitarist Adrien Grousset and drummer Florent Marcadet from the French metal outfit Hacride, delivering his electronic compositions through live instruments and sophisticated visual displays.
