Beat the Monday blues with an uplifting, driven or motivating song to get you going through the rest of the day, maybe even the rest of the week. Today’s music is “The Station” by Eric Powell and Andrea Powell.
Eric C. Powell and Andrea Powell are an American synthpop duo based in Austin, TX. They are a married couple who first met in high school.
Originally from Southern California, they both sang in the school concert choir. Eric developed a keen interest in synthpop music and began writing his own at the same time. When Eric had a regular gig at an Italian restaurant playing and singing my original music, he asked Andrea to join him, thus beginning a beautiful musical friendship.
In 1989, Eric and Andrea met fellow musician Jeffrey Gonzalez and together they founded the band Turning Keys. They gained a notable following in the local electronica scene and went on to open for the likes of A Flock of Seagulls and Depeche Mode. Andrea eventually left Turning Keys in 1992 and Eric followed suit two years later. After exploring several music-related careers over the years, they re-entered the scene in 2016 and have since managed to grow a fanbase with retro synth and synthwave audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
“Eric’s writing and production reflect his signature catchy synth tracks with strong vocals and penetrating lyrics to challenge any listener and delight synth enthusiasts. Andrea’s haunting vocals often express the longing of our hearts while saturating the soul.”
