Beat the Monday blues with an uplifting, driven or motivating song to get you going through the rest of the day, maybe even the rest of the week. Today’s music is “Lovers on a Beach” by NINA and Ricky Wilde.
Ricky Wilde (sometimes credited as Ricki Wilde) is a British songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is the younger brother of singer Kim Wilde and son of singer-actor Marty Wilde.
When Wilde was just eleven years old, record producer Jonathan King discovered his talent and signed him to his UK Records label. Wilde’s debut single, “I Am an Astronaut,” was released in November 1972. King took on the role of mentor and recognized great potential in Wilde, moulding him into the teenybopper sensation of 1973. Subsequent singles such as “Do It Again, a Little Bit Slower,” “I Wanna Go to a Disco,” and “Teen Wave” were released. Despite being featured in youth magazines and making appearances with his father, the singles did not achieve success in the UK. However, Wilde did find some success in Scandinavia and Spain.
In 1980, the recording of new material led to the ‘discovery’ of Kim Wilde, Ricky Wilde’s sister. Ricky took on the role of producer and co-writer, a role he has continued to fulfill to this day. From that moment on, he was content to be more in the background. Even when Kim Wilde paused her pop music career, Ricky Wilde continued to work in the music industry. In 2005, he played a key role in the formation of the band Sonic Hub and the establishment of the record label Sonic Hub Records.
Wilde has named Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) as “heroes” and a key source of inspiration. Other influences have included Ultravox, John Foxx, Gary Numan, Skids, Sex Pistols, the Clash, Kraftwerk and the Stranglers.

NINA is the professional name of Nina Boldt, a Berlin-born singer-songwriter now based in London. Her Bandcamp bio describes her music as “…a fusion of Pop, New Wave and Electronic music, often nostalgic in spirit.”
