Tuesday Type is a fortnightly feature showcasing a chosen font. Today’s type is Hahmlet by Hypertype.
Hahmlet is inspired by a poster for the Korean ‘Hamlet’ movie from the 1940s, created by an unknown letterer. The distinct, and quirky details inspired Minjoo Ham to launch an uncommon revival project for a robust, contemporary typeface. Once the Hangul was finished, Mark Frömberg took on the challenge of translating the characteristics into Latin script. A lively exploration into the possible and impossible began. Hahmlet is great for print or screen typesetting and is especially suitable for signage and posters. It is highly recommended for Hangeul and Latin bilingual typography.
