Despite women making up roughly half of the workforce, they are still vastly underrepresented in leadership. The proportion of CEOs who are female is currently 24% and there are only 4 women who have ever been Fortune 500 CEOs.
However, we have seen many tech companies being led by women in the past few years. Women such as Susan Wojcicki at YouTube, Marissa Mayer at Yahoo, Meg Whitman at Hewlett Packard and Sheryl Sandberg at Facebook were not only in charge of their companies but they were also successful in leading them to success.
Contrary to popular belief, the lack of women in leadership is not only a women’s issue, but a society issue. Achieving gender parity will enable humanity to fully leverage the strengths of everyone, regardless of which gender they belong to.
