BABYMETAL is a pioneering Japanese band that created the kawaii metal genre, blending heavy metal with J-pop. Formed in 2010, the core members are Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Moa Kikuchi (Moametal), and Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) who joined in 2019 after Yui Mizuno’s (Yuimetal) departure. They sing and dance while a backing band called the Kami Band plays the metal instrumentation. BABYMETAL gained global fame with their 2014 self-titled debut album containing hits like “Gimme Chocolate!!” and “Megitsune.” They’ve since released three more studio albums – Metal Resistance (2016), Metal Galaxy (2019), and The Other One (2023). They have also toured extensively, especially outside Asia.
Electric Callboy is a German electronicore band from a small city called Castrop-Rauxel. Electronicore fuses heavy meta and hardcore punk with electronic genres like trance and dubstep. Originally called Eskimo Callboy, they built a fanbase with their 2010 debut EP and six subsequent LPs including We Are the Mess (released in 2014, reached #8 in Germany), The Scene (released in 2017, reached #6 in Germany and #14 in Austria), and Tekkno (released in 2022, charted at #1 in Germany and Top 10 in Austria, Belgium and Switzerland). In 2020, they changed their name to Electric Callboy to distance themselves from the problematic “Eskimo” term. They also changed the artwork of previous releases to display the new name.
