Annihilation

Beat the Monday blues with a motivating song to get you going through the rest of the day, maybe even the rest of the week. Today’s music is “Annihilation” by Mike Templar.

Mike Templar is a multi-genre producer and musician from Switzerland. He began making music in 2017 and after experimenting with several genres and project names, he released his debut synthpop album “Everything” in April 2019.

Although his music-making journey began “later in life,” music was an early companion in Mike’s life. Electronic musicians from his childhood such as Mike Oldfield and Jean-Michel Jarre are major influences to his work. All his releases are concept albums with a continuous, underlying story or theme. His 2020 spacewave album “TROM” has an accompanying cyberpunk novella on Bandcamp and his 2021 album “MASSIVE” is a musical discourse on certain political concepts and ideologies that are rapidly gaining favour around the world.

Unlike his previous releases, “Annihilation” wasn’t written with a concept in mind. Unless you count the testing of a soft-synth prototype as a theme. According to Templar, the song was the result of extensive experimentation with a synthesiser plug-in called AS-42 by Aniolabs. Ironically, the transient nature of the song’s composition is what inspired the title.

“You can erase some stuff from your mind, because some things needn’t be attached to your future life.
