“Baduizm” is the debut studio album by the American singer-songwriter Erykah Badu. It was released on February 11, 1997, under Kedar Records and Universal Records.

“Baduizm” was met with favourable reviews from music critics who admired the unique musical style and artistic vision of Badu. Some even drew parallels between her and the legendary Billie Holiday. From a commercial perspective, “Baduizm” made an impressive debut at number two on the US Billboard charts and ascended to the top position on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album’s success was further underscored by its triple platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, along with gold certifications from both the British Phonographic Industry and Canadian Recording Industry Association.

The album’s promotion included the release of four singles: “On & On”, “Next Lifetime”, “Otherside of the Game”, and “Appletree”. “Baduizm” received numerous awards, including the prestigious Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 40th Grammy Awards. Alongside other contemporary albums like D’Angelo’s “Brown Sugar” (1995) and Maxwell’s “Urban Hang Suite” (1996), “Baduizm” played a significant role in establishing Badu as a prominent artist in the neo-soul genre. Moreover, it contributed to the increased commercial visibility of this genre during that period.
