The alternative to good design is always bad design. There is no such thing as no design.
Adam Judge
Design is the process of consciously and subconsciously making decisions about how something will be used, or made. An object is designed primarily to fulfill a purpose. So if we look at the quote above, bad design would be an object that is not used for its intended purpose.
Imagine you’re eating a sandwich and your teeth start to hurt because of the bread. That’s bad design. A designer made a decision about the bread’s hardness and now it’s hurting you. You can also see this in fashion, where clothing might not fit right, and make you uncomfortable as soon as you put them on. This would be another example of bad design: making clothes that don’t fit well on people who will wear them.
Good design would be an object with no flaws, one which fulfills its purpose and doesn’t cause any problems for those using it–like a toothless sandwich or clothes that are easy to put on and take off! The alternative to good design is always bad.
